Kazuki Yamada, the Artistic & Musical Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra, wanted to give the public an original programme for the 3rd season, that would bring them discover or rediscover the greatest artists of the moment through a “Musical Library”. This year MaximVengerov, one of the most famous violinists in the world will be hosted in residence and will show his huge talent by performing the works of Chostakovitch, Qigang Chen, Brahms, Schubert and Mozart. This season Kazuki Yamada wants to strengthen the synergies between the Principality and his country of birth, Japan, by presenting the Tokyo Philharmonic Choir of which he is also the Musical Director to the public. As always the “Young Public”,“Family”,“Spiritual” and “Happy Hour” concerts will satisfy all musical tastes and all desires throughout the season. The Philharmonic Orchestra will also continue its international tours in 2018 and 2019, giving several concerts abroad, including one in Paris with the Monte-Carlo Ballet. Latifa Echakhch’s new installation was created especially for the Villa Sauber. The exhibition is all about memories of a long-lost Monaco, from the construction of the Opéra Garnier to the planting of the luscious Jardins Exotiques, combined with impressions and reminiscences about the artist’s childhood. Latifa Echakhch selected a number of details from the paper models designed by Alphonse Visconti, who decorated Monte-Carlo Opera House between 1903 and 1924, which she subsequently transformed into theatre scenery. She thus fills the exhibition space with a landscape as artificial as it is imaginary, made up of fragments of scenery from productions such as Pompeii, Rigoletto and Masques et Bergamasques. This reconstructed setting, the pieces suspended by the wires of an imaginary theatre, is closely connected to the tradition of the mechanical automates made in Parisian workshops in the 19t h century; and these were also the inspiration for a series of videos shown amidst this mechanical garden created by Latifa Echakhch.
